What A Shock!
Extracorpeal Shockwave Therapy is a non-invasive form of treatment that is suited for difficult musculo-skeletal conditions by using high amounts of energy in the form of a sound wave.
This energy leads to a cascade of effects including new blood vessel growth, reversal of long term inflammation, breakdown of calcified tissues and stimulation of collagen, a repair tissue that is needed to heal the damaged area.
Shockwave is great for a number of conditions, including but not limited to:
- Plantar Fasciitis/heel spur
- Achilles tendinopathy
- Gluteal tendinopathy
- Hamstring tendinopathy
- Calcific tendonitis of the shoulder
- Patella tendinopathy
- Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) and Golfers elbow (medial epicondylitis)
- Biceps tendinopathy
- Muscle strains
- Shin splints
- Osgood Schlatter Disease
Shockwave is better than regular non-invasive treatment as it treats the source rather than the symptoms, so we can get you back to doing the things you love without pain.
At the Whole Body Clinic, a Shockwave Therapy consultation will include a thorough questioning regarding the history of your injury, a series of tests to find the primary location of your pain and then using the Shockwave applicator for a period of 15-20 minutes, depending on your condition.
You will notice a pain decrease almost immediately and will last over the next 24 hours following treatment and you will have better mobility after 24-48 hours.
Most conditions that we use for Shockwave Therapy are long term problems, so most patients will need 3-10 sessions to achieve full recovery for their injury.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us here at the clinic.
